Q39

“Alex is a Treasure.” John Lechleiter

Pivoting the ship of a 135 year old pharma Co.

John created a “rev” team of twelve diverse leaders from around the Company. Revolution, revision, revitalization… we were a shadow skunkworks pushing the top level Executive Committee to help turn the ship. We sought no credit. We had no brand. They had everything to lose.

PROBLEM DEFINITION — UX — SYSTEM THINKING — BRAND COMMUNICATION

THE CHALLENGE

While a proven leader, especially in research and development within small molecules, the Company was facing the patent cliff like no other — it had made it through a previous blockbuster loss [first in the world] with the loss of Prozac in 2002. Soon, it was about to lose 5 blockbusters more or less at once. People were panicked. The Achiever sales model of success no longer applied. Moral was at an all time low. It was showing throughout the business.
